Nouncomputers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions. Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity. From Wikipedia under the

One piece I can not find reliable info on is what percent of computers recycled/donated are able to be refurbished and resold (within the US). The numbers I have found are <2%, 10% and 50%. Asked by mikedddd - Sun Jan 11 22:43:26 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. i'd guess that 50% or more can be salvaged. however, it's extremely difficult to find an operating system that will run very well (ie not be slower than a nematode) on older, slower, machines. i would think that there should be a market for an operating system that has less function, and uses fewer cpu cycles. unfortunately, such a system may well not be profitable. a) because people will simply copy it and not pay, or b) because people will not find the lack of much of the current function acceptable. Answered by linlyons - Sun Jan 11 23:44:24 2009 How many computers can you download World of Warcraft to? Q. Is there a limit? Or can you just load to as many computers as you need, and the only other thing necessary is a paid account? Asked by tt10162 - Thu Mar 5 21:24:05 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can actually download the game from Blizzard or from any other common mirror out there. You just need an account key to play your own, specified account. Once you have an account and its paid for, you can play it anywhere that has World of Warcraft installed. Q. I need to see which computers are using my wireless internet, from my router, and what sites they are going to and when. Please help thanks! Asked by John M - Tue Jan 20 09:47:34 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The easiest way to see which computers are on your network is to view your routers page in you browser. Try typing into your address bar, that should take you to the configuration page for your router (if not check the manual to see if there is a different URL you should use) . Once on that page look for something about DHCP, and look for a list of computers, it might say something like "DHCP Reservation" or similar. The list should show the computer name, IP address, MAC address, etc The other part of your question is a bit more difficult. In order to monitor usage, you need a spy program to detect the traffic, also known as a "Packet Sniffer" is to detect what the individual computers are up to. Many of these programs are… [cont.] Answered by Rob The Great - Tue Jan 20 15:52:11 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "computers" A computer is a machine for manipulating data according to a list of instructions.
