Adolescence (from Latin: adolescere meaning "to grow up") is a transitional stage of physical and mental human development that occurs between childhood and adulthood. This transition involves biological (i.e. pubertal), social, and psychological changes, though the biological or physiological ones are the easiest to measure objectively. Historically, puberty has been heavily associated with teenagers and the onset of adolescent development. In recent years, however, the start of puberty has had somewhat of an increase in preadolescence (particularly females, as seen with early and precocious puberty), and adolescence has had an occasional extension beyond the teenage years (typically males). These changes have made it more difficult to rigidly define the time frame in which adolescence occurs. The end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood varies by country and by function, and furthermore even within a single nation-state or culture there can be different ages at which an individual is considered to be (chronologically and legally) mature enough to be entrusted by society with certain tasks. Such milestones include, but are not limited to, driving a vehicle, having legal sexual relations, serving in the armed forces or on a jury, purchasing and drinking alcohol, voting, entering into contracts, completing certain levels of education, and marrying. Adolescence is usually accompanied by an increased independence allowed by the parents or legal guardians and less supervision, contrary to the preadolescence stage. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to get teens involved with and committed to volunteer work and service projects? Q. How do you get teens involved with and committed to service projects? It seems that the majority teens today can't be bothered or are simply too busy to apply themselves to any cause that isn't within their scope of interests and most often service and volunteer work comes last on their list of priorities that include socialization, gaming, and/or studying. Getting teens to spread the word and bring friends to help volunteer helps somewhat, but even then, this strategy doesn't yield great results. Help? Asked by Jay - Mon May 4 00:39:03 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Make it into something fun, not something that seems like work. Try to involve the things that you mentioned that they do or like to do into a service project. Allow time for socializing, celebrating, games, etc. If it involves something that can be divided into teams, make it into a competition with some kind of prize or recognition to motivate them. It might seem bad that you have to do that to get people to help, but not everyone is simply and truly interested in contributing to the common good. Asked by Randy S - Mon Feb 11 15:03:08 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am a teenager who lives in the UK and have met many Americas teens. Teenagers in the US seem to be alot more cliquey and don't really mix with people who are out of their social group, whereas, teen in the UK do. Although there are groups in the UK (Chavs, Scals, Moshers, Trendys, Goths, geeks, etc) those groups actually mix quite often. Also, American teens are too cliche. When I met American teens these are the questions they asked me. "Do you know the Queen?" "Have you met the Queen?" "Do you have guards outside of your house?" "Do you like crumpets?" "Are you Vegetarian?" "What weird stuff do you say?" "Are you Jamaican?" So yeah, American teens are stupid.
