Surgery (from the Greek: χειρουργική cheirourgikē, via Latin: chirurgiae, meaning "hand work") is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate and/or treat a pathological condition such as disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance, or sometimes for some other reason. An act of performing surgery may be called a surgical procedure, operation, or simply surgery. In this context, the verb operating means performing surgery. The adjective surgical means pertaining to surgery; e.g. surgical instruments or surgical nurse. The patient or subject on which the surgery is performed can be a person or an animal. A surgeon is a person who performs operations on patients. Persons described as surgeons are commonly medical practitioners, but the term is also applied to physicians, podiatric physicians, dentists and veterinarians. Surgery can last from minutes to hours, but is typically not an ongoing or periodic type of treatment. The term surgery can also refer to the place where surgery is performed, or simply the office of a physician, dentist, or veterinarian. From Wikipedia under the

A female friend of mine stated that she recently had surgery, and asked if I could take her to the hospital. Of course I said no problem, and when I asked what type of surgery, she stated that she'd rather not say. What type of female surgery might a woman be hesitant to reveal to a close friend? I know it's not a hysterectomy because she is planning to have more children. Also, she has had other outpatient surgeries in the past, that she voluntarily told me about, which is the only reason I felt comfortable asking about this one. I'm pretty sure it's not plastic surgery. :) She's going through financial transition right now, and I don't think plastic surgery would be in her budget. But I'll keep my eyes open. :) Asked by Quentin - Thu Apr 5 19:04:30 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments A. Maybe some sort of plastic surgery? Sometimes women are a little shy about their nipping and tucking. Answered by justpeachee22 - Thu Apr 5 19:08:18 2007 What do you eat after weight loss surgery? Q. I'm considering weight loss surgery. What does one eat after a surgery? Could I just follow the same diet (without the surgery) and get the same results? Asked by babygirl123455 - Sun Jul 15 11:10:08 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you are considering the surgery, why are you asking if you can get the same results following the same diet? Surgery is the last option for those who are seriously overweight, and ALL other methods have failed. It sounds like you want to try and change your diet, which is good. If you have not tried diet and exercise, then you should. This surgery is dangerous, and full of risks. Spend the time exercising and eating healthy food. It took a long time for you to put on the weight, so it is going to take a long time to take it off. Just be patient and you will be rewarded for your efforts. They give you very strict instructions about what you can, and cannot eat after surgery. For instance, you cannot drink and eat at the same time. Q. I have to have this surgery and I was wondering what the recovery is like so I can schedule the surgery when it will fit in with school and vacation best. Will I have to be on crutches? If so, how long? How soon after the surgery will I be able to walk up and down hills will no problem? Also, how is the surgery itself? I've had a bunch of operations before, so I'm not really worried, but it will be nice to know what other peoples experiences were. Thanks! There are two different ways to fix meniscus tear, one involves repairing the tear, the second is a menisectomy. A menisectomy involves cutting out the torn portion and smoothing out the edges. This is done arthroscopically generally as an outpatient procedure. You may be on crutches for a couple of days, but most patients really don't need them. Recovery is quick as is return to normal activities. You may be sore for a while, but really only have pain the first couple days or so. This option is not ideal because any loss of meniscus can increase your chance of arthritis in the future. It can also make you more prone to further damage. A meniscus repair is much… [cont.] Answered by ATsoccergirl - Sun Aug 17 16:30:10 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Surgery"
