How do I start a support group?
Q. Nearly a year ago my 13 year old so was killed in a tragic accident. I also know at least 6 other people who have lost children, ranging in age from newborn to 20 years old. I would like to start a support group for parents like me. I decided I would contact our local newspaper to do a small feature to get the word out. Anyone have any advice? How often to meet, how long meetings should be, any activities we might be able to incorporate? Any advice would be helpful.

A. I think that is a great idea..and you are amazing to think of something like that for people... I think that advertising in the local paper is a great start maybe if you have the time you could also start a website for people that have been thru something like that... As for the meetings maybe start out like once a week, just giving people time to vent or relieve stress about it will help... Maybe set up like activites for like once a month where you cna have get togethers where you all do a project...like maybe one could be people bring any pics or items that remind them of thier loved and lost ones and you all make a scrapbook of them...This will allow them to share these pics remember these time with people who really understand what… [cont.]
