What is the difference between maxima cum laude and summa cum laude?
Q. which is a higher level of honour?
Asked by Evangeline - Sat May 16 07:14:02 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. cum laude, "with honor" (direct translation: "with praise") magna cum laude, "with great honor" (direct translation: "with great praise") summa cum laude, "with highest honor" (direct translation: "with highest praise") A rarely used distinction, maxima cum laude, "with very great praise", is an intermediary honor between the summa and the magna honors. It is sometimes used when the summa honor is reserved only for students with a perfect academic record (4.0 GPA).

Is graduating c-u-m laude a good thing considering that it is not as a good as magna or summa?
Q. Doesn't it really matter based on institution, the major you have, and the amount of tough classes you take compared to other people who take cupcake electives.
Asked by PB - Mon Oct 26 14:05:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It does vary a little, but not much! I graduated from a state university with NO honors at all, so you're way ahead of me and I've done pretty good for myself. Honestly, seeing ANY honors recognition on a job application tells the employer so much. They almost NEVER ask for a transcript, so there's no way to tell how difficult your classes were (or weren't). Just consider yourself blessed that you graduated with honors- period!

Are cumlaude and summa given by distinction in overall gpa or gpa in your major?
Q. I have a 3.3 overall and a 3.7 gpa in my major
Asked by chuckbell - Fri Nov 9 10:58:36 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The requirements for those honors depend completely on the university. For example, at my undergraduate school -- it was completely dependent on overall GPA. But at another school that I went to, students needed a high GPA and also had to write an undergraduate thesis. I doubt that you will qualify to graduate with honors with an overall GPA of 3.3. However, that GPA in you major may get you into a good graduate school -- and that is better in the long run.

Do undergraduate students who are graduating summa cum laude wear different regalia at commencement?
Q. And if so, what's different? Why yes they did (stupid censors).
Asked by Blue - Mon Jan 21 20:38:15 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes. Depending on the GPA, they will either wear CORDS that are school colors, or a colored shash.

Can you graduate summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude from a college if you transfer your junior year?
Q. So, I was reading the school handbook and it shows how you can graduate with honors. I am just trying to understand it. When you transfer, your GPA turns to 0 in that school right? So, for example, if I did poorly my first two years in college and transferred to another school and got like all A's. Can I graduate with honors?
Asked by Carina - Wed Dec 16 23:50:14 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Honors are usually based on your total GPA for all four years of college. Otherwise, it would be unfair to people who did not transfer.

What's graduating "Summa Cum Laude" really worth in the job market?
Q. The reason I ask is because I graduate this week and my search for a job, even graduating in the top 1% of my class in business I have not yet been able to find a job. Does anyone have a story of getting a job because of these honors?
Asked by We work hard-We play hard!-Rosco - Mon Dec 14 11:42:14 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you know somebody yes it will help if not you will have to just get lucky. If this does not work then you might have to just go to work in retail ie Walmart ect. This job market is unreal right now I have never seen it this bad. The whole problem is that businesses need customers if they can't get them then they can't hire any more workers. Congrats on the degree man!!! Hang in there!!! You are not alone.

Do people really care if you graduated summa cum laude from college?
Q. I just wanted to know. Other than getting an award or special cord to wear for the graduation ceremony and having bragging rights, does it really matter if you graduate summa cum laude? Will it lead to a higher first salary, greater job opportunities, a better life, etc? I just want to know before I go through all of the paperwork and advising.
Asked by SadWoman - Tue May 29 21:07:24 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No. No one cares but grad programs, you and your family- but concidering how hard it is to get a good entry level job fresh out of undergrad, I'd just go ahead and plan on getting a master's.

A. "That which is, is." (Charles Fort) Sorting out the myths from the facts may take a while but work is in progress. Hold beliefs provisionally if necessary. "On the best data and hypothesis we have so far" is a lot better than an absolutely held doubt-free wrong answer.

how to become a Summa Cum laude if you are a total "fk" up in Highschool?
Q. I only have a 2.00 GPA and I want to becoma Summa Cum Laude, I know it might sound impossible, but hey I am a man I can't quit why did they bock the cum? ok the * will be replaced with "cumm" I mean SUmma Cumm laude in college
Asked by Iamatrollfeedme - Tue Jan 15 19:07:09 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Clearly you are going to have to work much harder in college than you have/did in high school, if this is your goal. Eat well, exercise, get enough sleep. Go to EVERY session of class and take copious notes. Don't fall behind on any of your reading or assignments. Go to the professor immediately if you run into trouble with something; consider joining/forming a study group where you think it will help you. Plan to commit plenty of time each week to each subject. Best of luck to you!

Summa, Magna, and c*m Laude people, how did you study in college?
Q. I'm putting in a lot of effort and I'm not getting the result I need to be getting. I am wondering if you all might have some things I could do to improve.

A. It also helps if you show your professors you are keen and interested in what they are teaching. They are more inclined to ignore minor mistakes that could be reducing your GPA if they know you are actually interested rather than just there to get a piece of paper to get a job later. Unfortunately too many students are there for just that - and guess what - they are treated accordingly. Thanks Bill

Do you know of anyone at present or in history who has gotten a summa cumma laude ?
Q. I have heard that child prodigies are so smart; yet they usually get a cumma laude in their academic achievements. I will also like to note that " William James Sidis", the most noted and mysterious child prodigy was said to possess an IQ of ( 250 or more) and even he received a cumma laude. Why would such an IQ receive a summa cumma laude?

Can someone graduate with a Master's Degree Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude, etc. or is that only for undergraduate
Q. I know this is the case for undergrads, but someone told me that was not true if someone is getting there Master's Degree. Can anyone confirm this?

A. Yes, that is only the case for bachelors degrees. The range of GPAs at the graduate level is usually pretty narrow, so they don't do as much to honor people with high GPAs.

A. In order to get a second marriage you must annul the first. That means the marriage is invalid and never exhisted. Therefor, your second marriage is a sacrement because it is a first marriage.

A. I know some schools (mine for example) have instituted a baseline grade that you need to get to achieve an award like that, so if the class has some overachievers in it, it would be possible for a higher amount of those grades.
